Journey in Faith: Holy Week 2023

This year Easter is early; it's at the beginning of April, which means Ash Wednesday is early. As we approach the penitential season of Lent, let's start reflecting on how we can better prepare for it:     - what to give up for Lent     - what Lenten meditations to consider (any books to get beforehand?)     - start thinking about meatless meals options (getting some recipes ready?)     - how to prepare the family for Lent     - as always, put God first Feel free to share the post.  Let us pray for one another. With so much terrible things going on in the world around us, more fasting, penance, and prayers never hurts and would surely help us all.

Journey Down Memory Lane: Carlsbad Caverns (2019)

After hearing about Carlsbad Caverns for years and years, Cutie and Misty finally visited the amazing caves this year. It was truly impressive and lived up to our expectations.  This is the entrance to the cavern. We walked down and took the elevator up. When we finally arrived at the bottom, we were glad that we did it in that order because the walk down took longer than we anticipated. We took a snack break at the cafe and gift shop in the main room, where we sent postcards back home with post marks from Carlsbad. How cool that there's a post office at the caverns?! soda straws and stalactites The cave formations of "soda straws", stalactites, and stalagmites got more and more interesting as we went deeper into the caverns. There was so much to see, and the audio tour was well worth it. This is indeed a memorable visit. Cutie and Misty highly recommend it!   The caverns were huge. We tried to see all that we could, but I'm pretty sure we probably missed something. W

Happy Lunar New Year

watching: A Hidden Life

image credit: amazon.com * spoiler alert This movie has been on my mind a lot since I watched it a while back. The movie is about Franz Jagerstatter's journey as a conscientious objector during World War I. He refused to swear an oath to Hitler. This seems like an obvious thing to do in hind sight, but it wasn't the case during that time in Austria, in his tiny village.  His fellow neighbors and at times even his own family wasn't very kind, to say the least, regarding his choice. His choice landed him in prison, subjected him to torture, and ultimately beheading. If you think Christian persecutions, particularly Catholics, only happened during the early church days, you are sorely mistaken, open your eyes and pay attention to what is going on around you and around the world. Christian persecutions are still happening in this age and have increased. As he was transported from the jail in Austria and finally the prison in Germany, people along the way attempted to coerce h

Journey Down Memory Lane: Little House on the Prairie 2019

After reading Little House in the Big Woods , we've been fans of Laura and her adventures. So imagine the excitement when we got to tour one of the sites where she lived and went to school, so long ago..     In addition to the schoolhouse, there were other sights to see such as the cabin and a house with information about Laura and her family. The house included a small gift shop in the back. Both Misty and Cutie brought their cameras, so we all took a ton of photos, and these were just some of the highlights. It was very interesting to see how they lived in pioneer days.   This was a pleasant surprise on our road trip and was certainly worth the detour. The hours for this place varies and the location is remote, so please do some research on it before visiting.  If you've not heard of the Little House on the Prairie books, my two little buffaloes are fans  and highly recommend them. Happy New Year 2023

Happy New Year! May the year 2023 be filled with God's grace.  For many of us 2022 was very tumultuous, it seems as though the world around us is falling apart. It was filled with suffering, anxieties, fears, and stress. By the grace of God, we managed to make it to another year. It is with hope in Christ that we weathered through it all. It is with joy that another new year is upon us, and we can put 2022 behind. The thought of starting anew is exciting. Once again, we are seeking to be closer to God and do the will of God this year. Our hope in Christ continues. Thanks be to God.
