St Marys, Kansas

The Immaculata Church at St Marys, Kansas Our family took a road trip to St Marys, Kansas. We went specifically to see the church, the Immaculata. My children were also eager to see the school while we were there, the locale for the Tom Playfair books by Father Finn. We didn’t get to see much of the school, other than from the road, but nonetheless, we were still very excited just to be there because my children really enjoyed the series of books by Father Finn. We watched the consecration of the Immaculata from home in May  and have been looking forward to visit the church ever since. The drive was long with all of us packed in like sardines, but it was worth it. I have no words to describe how amazing and beautiful the church is.  Since we didn’t live close by, we had to camp for a night or so, just to have time to see everything we wanted to see there. The trip was everything that we had hoped for and more. We got to see the church and the school, and then had lunch at Sugar Cre

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2023: One Thing

Every year, Nordstrom has a sale to commemorate their anniversary. The sale takes place in the summer but the items are for the Fall. Some people use this opportunity to shop for back to school, others just to shop a sale. My one thing for this year's sale are these earrings. They're pretty and even better on sale.

Reading: Infiltration by Taylor Marshall

image from Amazon.com I was first introduced to this book a couple of years ago when I was wondering what happened to the Catholic Church that I grew up with. I wished I had read this book before the pandemic because I think it would have better prepared me for what happened during the lockdown.  The churches in our area were locked up tight during the pandemic. We watched church on TV. At the time, it seemed fine, but looking back on it now, I think it was damaging to our spiritual lives. This book filled in the blanks on what has happened over the years in the Catholic Church and what happened behind the scenes. I was aware of some of the events mentioned by Marshall, but some of the details were eye opening. Needless to say, I couldn’t put the book down. I kept saying to myself, “so that’s what happened”, “that explains much”, and “what in the world”.   The book is well documented and provided sources on assertions made throughout the book. Thus, you can go back and check on this

Eats: Flounders (Pensacola, Florida)

One of our favorite restaurants in Pensacola, Florida is Flounders. We've been going there for years. It was easier to get a seat before the boardwalk was built, but now it is busy all the time including off-peak season. It is worth the wait though.  Everything there is delicious and fresh, but some of our favorites are the Seafood Nachos, the clams, and the clam chowder. The Seafood Nachos is an appetizer, but the portion is so big, you could have it as an appetizer and an entree and still have leftovers.  We try to eat there whenever we're in Pensacola, but sometimes it is so crowded that we couldn't even get into the parking lot. The best time to go is during off-peak season, right as they're opening because the seating will fill up quick. If you can't get in, they offer take-out option, and that's just as good. We've done that many times as well. It's just that good. I can't wait to go back.
